The Association of Supporting Chinese Literature: 35 Years of Multilingual Development

Over the past 35 years, the Association has left a significant impression on those who cherish the Chinese language.

The Association recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. It was officially established on November 3, 1989, by a decision from the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. The Association’s goal is to support teachers in improving their skills and encourage students to “Excel in Vietnamese and Master Chinese.”

Over its 35 years of operation, the Association has held nine congresses, continuously expanded its membership, and enhanced its activities. These efforts have significantly contributed to linguistic diversity and the advancement of integration.

Looking back on its 35-year journey, representatives from Chinese language centers have actively participated in the Association’s Executive Board and Advisory Committee from its first to its ninth term. Together, they have upheld solidarity, contributed to the growth of education, and achieved remarkable milestones in Chinese language education.

Notably, the Association has supported activities organized by the Continuing Education Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, as well as the Chinese Teachers’ Club. It has conducted professional training courses, enhanced teaching skills, and sent young teachers abroad for specialized training and master’s degree programs. The Association has also awarded scholarships to outstanding students from various centers and national Chinese language competitions. It continues to publish Chinese language textbooks for grades 1 to 10 and compile the “Children’s Garden” book to inspire young learners to create in Chinese.

The Association’s notable achievements have been recognized with commendations from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee over the years.

In 2024, to mark its 35th anniversary, the Association was awarded the Traditional Flag for 35 years of dedication and development by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.

These accomplishments reflect the Association’s unwavering efforts in fostering education, particularly in preserving and promoting Chinese language education in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the recent 35th-anniversary celebration, the Association honored 30 teachers for their significant contributions to Chinese language centers in Ho Chi Minh City. Each teacher received a cash gift of 1 million VND. The Association also provided 50 million VND to support scholarships for ethnic minority students in difficult circumstances in Ho Chi Minh City; Additionally, it donated 248 million VND to sponsor activities of the Chinese Teachers’ Club in Ho Chi Minh City; A further 20 million VND was contributed to the O Dan Phat Calligraphy Charity Fund to assist disadvantaged students at Tra Vinh University.

Mr. Co Gia Tho, President of the Association, stated that in its ninth term, the Association will focus on key initiatives, such as: organizing professional training courses for teachers to enhance teaching quality and adopt advanced methods; integrating technology into teaching to create a modern and effective learning environment; and providing support for teachers and students, including scholarships for underprivileged yet outstanding students, as well as incentives and financial assistance for teachers. Furthermore, the Association plans to host various cultural exchange programs to foster connections and make teaching and learning Chinese more enjoyable.

Notably, benefactors of the Association are developing a proposal to establish a multidisciplinary school that teaches Vietnamese, Chinese, and English based on the curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training.
